The diary

This amazing exhibition is a new approach where contemporary photo art illustrates the very special heritage that fascinates everyone who comes into contact with it. We wish to make the viewer curious about Fanø’s cultural history, but also to add new artistic angles to the ‘life moments’ of the past – both everyday and special moments.
Fanø is more than a holiday destination, more than a National Park, more than a UNESCO world heritage site, Fanø is a cultural pearl – and is the only place in Denmark, whose impressive maritime history and unique cultural history is still alive and part of the islanders’ self-understanding. On Fanø, we have our own dances, music and, not least of all, the beautiful Fanø folk costumes, and all of these elements are widely used, not only for our annual events ‘Fanikkerdagene’ and ‘Sønderhodag’, but also for other festive occasions all year round.
